Meeting the due diligence requirements of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) is a challenge for timber traders across the EU. But there’s help at hand in the form of free training courses that present new tools and risk assessments that make due diligence simpler.

The training is part of a project funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union and the UK’s Department for International Development and run by NEPCon, a not-for-profit organisation that implements sustainability projects.

At the training courses, you’ll be able to:

  • Find out more about the EU Timber Regulation and how it’s being implemented.
  • Learn about the NEPCon Sourcing Hub and how it can help make your due diligence easier. The Sourcing Hub provides free information on the risk that timber was sourced in a way that breached harvesting, trade or transport laws in its country of origin. A preview of these risk assessments is available on the NEPCon Sourcing Hub, via www.nepcon.org/sourcinghub. By autumn, information will be available for 62 timber-producing countries, making it the biggest and most detailed collection of forest legality risk assessments that have ever been published.
  • Conduct some hands-on exercises to help you learn about the tools and risk assessments available on the NEPCon Sourcing Hub.

There will be training courses in 12 EU countries, one online webinar for people who cannot make it to the in-person training, plus two events aimed at Competent Authorities and one event aimed at other Monitoring Organisations. All the courses are one-day events. The program will be a Timber Focus.

If you’re interested in attending, you need to register your interest via www.nepcon.org/events. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ann Weddle on aw@nepcon.org.
